You don't have to take it out unless it get uncomfortable, but you can get bars that are made from flexible plastic that are good for pregnancy.

I still have my gold belly bar in.. You can buy silicone belly bars lot more flexible then gold or surgical steel/ titanium..

ps.. also you don't need to take it out when you have your scans

I still have mine in but it really annoys me now so was thinking the same thing. My sister has taken hers out in all her pregnancies (she's currently 33wks in to her 3rd) and she's not had a problem putting it back in after.
