Feb 16th: around 5:30pm I started having really bad back/hip pain but I assumed it was from my long walk I had taken and ignored it. They continued through the night and kept me awake most of the night.

Feb.17: I had a scheduled OB appt at 10:30am and was still experiencing the back/hip pain. They hooked me up to the monitors for standard late-term testing and discovered the back pain was actually contractions! I was having them 4-5mins apart.

My blood pressure was elevated due to the contractions so they sent me to L&D just in case of pre-eclampsia.

Cervical check showed I was only 2.5 cm dilated but since my blood pressure remained elevated and my contractions were so close together they decided to admit me.

Around 2:30-3:00pm I received another cervical check and I was only at 4cm so they told me I had to have my water broken or receive pitocin, I chose my water to be broken since I wanted a no med labor/birth.

At 6pm I had no change in dilation so they started pitocin and continued to have back labor contractions.

Pitocin made the contractions so much worse and I tried to fight through the pain but after 4 more hours of no progress, I got the epidural and actually loved it. (Big fear of needles)

Feb 18th:

I slept til around 4am and they did another cervical check and I was 6cm dilated and completely numb from my chest down so they had to turn off the epidural for a 1/2 hr. When it got turned back on, it had stopped working on my left hip area even though my left leg was still completely numb.

At noon I was checked again, still having the contractions in my left hip, and was almost 8cm dilated but my blood pressure was rising again and my kidney didn't seem to be functioning very well so they tested me for pre-eclampsia again.

The test came back positive around 3pm and I was told I would have to have a csection and they started prepping me... The epidural continued to not work on my left side so I had to be put to sleep. The anesthesia caused mine and Carters lungs to decrease/fail and I was immediately put on oxygen and he had to be resuscitated at birth and had meconium in his lungs. He was born at 3:52pm, I was woken up around 4:10pm and I finally got to see him around 5:30pm. I threw up all throughout my labor even after my csection but I am recovering nicely and Carter doesn't appear to have any health problems! It wasn't even close to the labor I wanted but the outcome was perfect: my little boy alive and healthy 😭👶💙
