what are the signs that you are about to go into labor how would u tell if u are having actual contractions

hey I had my son give days ago and I didn't start feeling my contractions till I was 6cm. The days before I felt like I had a stomach bug; diarrhea, vomiting, etc. I actually only went into the hospital bc I had decreased movement.
