My son is 10 days old & has a fever of 99.9 what should I do? is there any over the counter medication he can take?

That's not considered a fever. Until rectally taken and gettin 100.4. If you're worried call your doctor. But if not followed by other symptoms you're okay. Babies bodies don't regulate internal temp like ours do so while 99 would be a fever for you it's not for your little one.

yeah what @californiahaley said. my doctor told me not to worry unless babys temperature is 100.4. if it gets that high er right away. but you could always call and check. better to be safe.

I'd say call. I called my pedi at a 100 rectal temp he said since he didn't have any other symptoms he was fine and I didn't have to give him anything just to keep an eye on him. Call to ease your kind.

@californiahaley, @juliagail09 thank you ladies. Very new at this mama thing. I went to change his diaper & he's hand & feet were cold (even though he sleeps with mittens on & swaddled up) but his back & chest were hot & red. I have one of the thermometers that you place on the forehead & it reads his temp like that. I don't have a rectal one. Do you think those are still pretty accurate?

@iloveyou, I've never used one of those. My pedi just said rectal is most accurate apposed to under the tongue or arm pit.

Call his doctor. The rectal temp is the best way to tell at this age, but under about 4 months a fever is a reason to call the doctor. If your doctor doesn't have an on call number call the ER or monitor him until in the morning when you can.
