Can i ask to be induced at 38 weeks?I am currently 35.3 weeks pregnant as of 9/12. I'm curious because my boyfriend lives 2 1/2 hrs away and works a 8hr shift from 9am-6pm. I want to make sure he is able to take time off and make it for the birth of our son as he wants to be there so badly and does not want to miss it. I may be only 16, but this is a huge thing to my boyfriend and he would be so devastated and heartbroken if he could not make it to the birth of our first baby boy! What are the chances of the doctor saying yes or no? I know it all depends, but if you've asked for induction at 38-39wks without medical reasons, what did they say to you?

Most doctors won't. And shouldn't. Babies come when they are ready. Most will only induce for none medical reasons only after your due date. Then again some will say that's fine and will do it. I strongly suggest reading and researching more about how developed your baby is likely to be at that point some babies are fine coming early and other need those extra two weeks to fully develop and some need an extra two weeks after the due date just because you're "due" doesn't always mean your baby will be ready.

The longer the baby cooks, the better. Seriously. The due date is just an estimated guess on when your baby will be developmentally ready, but it's not accurate (since ovulation and menstrual cycles vary woman to woman). While you think the baby might be ready at 38 weeks, they could need that other 4 weeks to develop fully and be healthy because your due date was off. And even if you decide to induce after you due date when the doctor might allow it, you run the increased risk of complications as well as a higher chance of a C-section. I understand the circumstances but I think both you and your partner would agree the baby's safety comes before anything. Good luck! ❤️
