FYI
Signs of early pregnancy include:
Sore, tender or tingling breasts: this is due to an influx of the pregnancy hormones oestrogen and progesterone, and of prolactin - the hormone which triggers milk production.
Spotting: a small amount of blood may escape as the fertilised egg embeds in the endometrium (womb lining), appearing as a few spots in your pants for a day or two. This is quite normal and is not usually a sign of early miscarriage, although heavier or prolonged blood loss will need investigating medically.
Overwhelming tiredness: again, due to hormonal activity, you may find yourself feeling unaccountably sleepy and physically exhausted. Don't worry, this will eventually pass as your hormone levels regulate.
Nausea: a very common early symptom, and one which some women find reassuring as it is thought to indicate a well-established pregnancy. Extreme, prolonged vomiting, known as hyperemesis, happens occasionally, and this needs medical attention.
An increased need to pee: this is caused by extra blood and fluid used in pregnancy that is excreted through your kidneys.
A metallic taste in the mouth and/or sudden aversion to a previously enjoyed food/drink/smell: the reasons for these symptoms are unknown, although the two after often linked, probably because any unusual taste in the mouth will inevitably affect the senses of taste and smell.
