Does anyone give their kids zarbees Melatonin Gummies? My daughter will be 5 next month she has been taking melatonin since age 3 which was okayed by her dr to take .5mg and then as she got older to take 1mg 20 minutes before bedtime. Has anyone experienced negative effects from this. I have heard from different family members how they stopped giving it to their kids because of the terrible outbursts and agression, emotional outbursts too. My daughter has been doing this alot, im ready to pull her from the melatonin completely even though it helps her sleep, and just struggle for a few on getting her to go to sleep, if that will mean she wont be acting out so bad throughout the day. I guess i just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this if they give their kids melatonin if it was because of that and once you took them off if you noticed a huge difference. Im so tired and drained. I just want my daughter to not be so emotionally frustrated and if it's the medicine then ill be stopping that asap. ❤️ Any advice is much appreciated.

Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the body, supplementing this can be detrimental bc it stops the body from producing its own. It’s marketed as a vitamin but it really interferes with hormones. A lot of kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD take it after taking stimulants in the morning to help them sleep but if there isn’t an actual sleep disorder, it could cause more harm than good in the body physically. People think that since it’s a vitamin, it’s not harmful but it can be.

The reason we started giving it to her was because she was having terrible night terrors, waking up on and off throughout the night, so her Dr said start the melatonin so we did it did wonders with helping her relax enough to sleep and helped her sleep better, she has always been a terrible sleeper. But now that she is almost five, we have taken her off now it's going on day 4 without it. I know it'll take a couple of weeks to see a difference. I'm hoping it will continue to be better without it. I agree long term use is not a good idea.

Melatonin should only be used occasionally. Not as a full time thing & it should not be used daily long term. Your body produces it’s own melatonin. I would stop using them for the simple fact of that.

Yeah her Dr said it's fine to give one at night daily. But I'm thinking it's becoming to much for her so I plan to stop it. Thank you for your advice.

@onthegomomma, I understand that. Maybe look into the side effects it causes on your own. Irritability is a possible side effect from long term use, I believe. It does more harm than good, IMO.
I’m glad you’re planning on stopping use of it!! You’ll be happy you did once she can get her little body regulating on its own!! 🧡

@love_linds yeah I have looked into the side effects of long term use and it does say agitation can be one. I know it will be a struggle in the beginning of no melatonin, but if it helps her relax better during the day without so much agitation it will be worth it completely. I am ready for her to be able to regulate on her own I know my hair stylist just took her son off of it a month ago because of the outburst and agitation he was having throughout the day. She said he is a totally different kid now that he is off of it. So I'm praying she will feel better being off of it too. ❤️
