I’ve got my first period since having the baby but tonight whilst feeding (BF) I could feel it coming out in clumps so I went to look and it was pouring out of me like a tap my toilet is covered I’ve never seen blood like it

I don’t think I’ve ever been this heavy before but is it normal to have that much blood loss?

My period after having Sophia wasn’t too bad however from what you have described I’d contact your midwife or health visitor. Rule out an infection. X

I remember mine being awful the first time with clotting. Also as you are breastfeeding it does make your uterus contract while feeding so it may have helped things come out quicker. That said if it doesn’t slow down and you are still loosing clots and a lot of blood within the hour then defo call the doctor or go to the hospital xx

Be careful and get it ruled out that your not hemorrhaging, it may not be but its better to be safe than sorry. Do you feel yourself other than the heavy period? I do remember mine been heavy too aswel so it may be nothing... Goodluck xx

It depends, the first period after having a baby is normally quite heavy. I remember mine was.

This is what the nhs website says about your first period after birth

heavier periods

small blood clots in your periods

If you have had blood clots in your period that have lasted a week, or have much heavier blood loss than you have had before, you should speak to your midwife, health visitor or GP.

So I'd go with your gut, but definitely if it continues to be unusually heavy contact your midwife or gp just to be sure xx
