Those who use melatonin for their kids what brand do you use and how many mg do you give your kids? My sons psychiatrist has recommended giving them to him to help him sleep at night because his medicine that he is on affects his sleep. If I allowed him to he would be awake 24-7. She told me I can give him up to 5mg. I was going to start off low and work up if needed.

We use zarbees as well. One gummy is enough to help my daughter when she's restless. Sometimes she's stays asleep the whole night sometimes she doesn't. Just the other night I gave her one at 2 am...and she was up still at 6:30 😑...I agree when you find a certain mg isn't working stop for a week or two and then start again on a low dose. My husband has been taking 5 mg for years and cannot fall asleep without it. That's not something you want for your son while he's so young.

Unfortunately with his meds it will continue to cause him issues with sleep so we will either have to give him melatonin or another form of sleeping aid. I wanted to try the more natural route first. We have tried to lower his dosage and see if that would help with his sleep and it doesn’t make a difference. While on the meds he will literally stay up all night and day. Without meds he will sleep around 2-3am. Unfortunately he has to be on the meds so stopping isn’t an option. If I give him the melatonin and stop it, it’s not going to reset his sleep pattern.

@dontblockmesis-imjustspeakingfacts awws poor guy. definitely try the melatonin first. Maybe to gauge his dosage my daughter is 45 lbs and takes 1 mg. She could probably tolerate 2 mg. Of course there are other factors as well but it's just a start. I hope you figure it out so little guy can sleep better.

This is what my pediatrician recommended for us (and worked): 1mg every night for two weeks. Then quit cold turkey. This will help reset the sleep pattern. From then on out, only give when traveling or when they’ve had a particularly hard/long day. That giving every single night can cause depression, anxiety, and can cause the person to become dependent on it. Good luck. ❤️

My son gets 1 mg and that works for him. We use the Natrol Kids gummies, but we’ve also used the Zarbees liquid. The liquid kicks in faster, so that I would give about half an hour before he should be sleeping. With the gummies I give it to him an hour before bed. He prefers the gummies.
