Question.. when I went to the doctors yesterday my OB checked to see how dilated I was.. he said “I’m going to do something that’ll start giving you contractions” and did something that was kind of painful😩He never really gave a name for what he did.. what do you think it was?
@leximonae1k, so weird! I mean, I don’t know if they HAVE to ask, but I’d assume so.
Yes a membrane sweep. If your body is ready it can kick start labor, if not it won't. He will likely do it every week to try to get things going but you can ask him not to because i heard it hurts. I was never dilated or low enough to have it done.
It’s been hurting down there ever since but I heard it can last for a little bit. I haven’t felt any different so🤷🏽♀️I probably won’t have him do it again because it hurts, he’s a little rough.
@leximonae1k most men are lol. My female OB was the best when it came to checks, never hurt! But her finger also weren't long enough to do my sweep lol.
yes its a membrane strip. they did it to me at 38 weeks, but nothing happened; so i was induced the next night.
@leximonae1k, honestly if they weigh your baby using the ultrasound, its so unreliable, bc they were trying to tell me my baby weighed 10 pounds.
@collegemommy, Yes it was from the ultrasound 🙄.. I hope she isn’t that small. But I’m very small so I don’t even know.
@leximonae1k, well we will see. Goodluck! its honestly the most unforgettable experience. Dont try to worry about it to much.
@leximonae1k, i believe 38wks is full term for some drs and they do it. I rly have never had it done personally bt i kno of few moms tht had it done at 39-40wks n it didnt do much. Are you dialated at all
Weird he did it so early. Def a membrane sweep. Usually they have to ask your permission also.
