Hey lovely mommas, wives, girlfriends. My husband is on the fence about adopting a pup for our family. I'm leaning more towards getting a chocolate or black lab. How or when did you decide that a dog was what you wanted for your family?
@raquely I've been gathering more and more information about the breed and what I would need to do to prepare for dog ownership. We will have a good sized yard and want to start up an active lifestyle. I will definitely take how the kids handle the puppy into consideration as well. Thanks!
- Oh. They had him for 13 amazing years. He’s in family portraits. ❤️ the kids celebrate his birthday still. Of course! Good luck deciding on a new family member 🙃
@inkedsouthernbelle That's some good advice and great to know! Thanks so much. We had gotten a Bichon Frise when we were overseas and she was my baby until I found out I was pregnant days later and the puppy became SO annoying to me. I couldn't deal with her pooping and peeing all over the house and being followed. Smh. I'm usually a dog person, but I just wasn't in the mood for her I guess. My youngest is 2 right now and we probably wouldn't start looking for a puppy until later on, maybe next year when we're more settled into our new home and environment. We will have a fenced-in yard and are ready to become an active family and I think a lab would be the perfect addition and get us up and out more. Little dogs are mean!! Lol! No more little ones for us.
- My aunts Yellow lab, was a member of the family. They got him when the youngest kid was 3.. he just died a few years ago.. those kids were heartbroken but understood. He was great around the kids. ❤️
Labs are the best pets for families. I have a white lab whose 11 and I’ve had her since she was a puppy. I wouldn’t get a puppy if you have small children because they’re both a handful and the labs are especially playful but eager to learn and please. It just takes patience and time which if you have a baby you won’t have much of. Not to mention having to keep eyes on the baby constantly when he/she is around the puppy so he/she won’t hurt the pup and vice versa. It was a chore raising my lab but I wouldn’t recommend another dog but her because she’s my heart, now knows over 50 commands and is the most gentle soul especially around my baby. My blind chihuahua on the other hand hates my son and all other children lol. I’ve had her 12 years and sectioned off a side of my house especially for her so she can get away from the loud noise and kids and have some peace and quiet. I couldn’t imagine a life without dogs so I’m always gonna be pro adoption but make sure you’re ready for what’s to come because they do need training and exercise and once again you don’t want to introduce a new pup into the family with babies around. Good luck! Oh one more thing they really need a back yard or at least a park near by because they’re runners haha
