Toilet training

Hi mummas! I'm in the middle of toilet training my 3 year old daughter. She's doing amazing at going when we are home, she takes herself off to the toilet and hasn't had any accidents but it's a different story when we go out. She refuses to go and will just wet herself. She was sitting on the toilet today at playgroup but wouldn't do a wee, she wet herself 3 times in the 2 hours we were there.

Since posting this she has had hardly any accidents and is now happy using public toilets, no accidents at playgroup today ?

something just clicked with her and she's doing so well ?

Thank you xx

My boys were overwhelmed/scared by the larger looking hole when out & about (without their toddler seat like at home).

We would "check for wees" before leaving home, then they needed to hold onto me if they sat on a 'big person' toilet.

What about bribery then? A small treat when out if she will go wee when you take her? Would prevent an accident, then lots of praise and encouragement and you can faze out the treats after she is consistently going

Yeah we have the toddler seat attachment for at home. I haven't noticed any cues for her needing to go, she just says "wee coming" and runs to the toilet. When we are out she won't tell me she needs to go like she does at home, she will just wee herself and come to me crying. I've also tried taking her and sitting her on it, every time I've done that she says she doesn't need to wee but 2 minutes later she wets herself.

I second going first. If I'm out usually both my kids deny needing to go but I make a trip anyway and just everyone has a turn on the toilet. They always go.

Have you tried taking her when you see the cues and going first to show her it's like at home?

My son was once freaked out by someone's blue toilet water. We were at their house for hours so I had to go first and show him it was okay each time lol

Do you also think she is just having fun and doesn't want to leave the group? I always remind DS3 that we will come back to the activity but first he has to go to the toilet.

Is it the same toilet?

By that, I mean does she use a potty or one of those special seats on top of the toilet at home, and then she's faced with a 'normal' seat when out?
