Disney?
I'm up all alone watching Pocahontas. What's your favorite Disney movie?
I couldn't just pick one either! They are all so good. I don't really like a lot of the newer Disney movies, but I do like Frozen lol. The snowman song always pops up in my head. I have read and noticed a lot of racism in his movies, but Walt Disney was one creative guy.
Are you referring to me? I didn't state to brush racism under the carpet and I'm just giving my own perspective which I'm entitled to. I just don't find the need to work myself up over any Disney movies. I can do all that in my day to day life. To each their own though. If you don't like the themes of their movies, more power to you. And for others, they enjoy the movies so more power to them as well. I see that there can't be ANY topic that doesn't rile someone up.
Song of the South was a really racist movie but it is really old. Plus who doesn't know what Walt Disney was about when he was living? I can't get mad or hold that against someone though. For example, my SO is white and if his ancestors had slaves, I wouldn't take it out on him. That's just my perspective though.
Um Disney movies definitely have racism and sexism in them. It's not all about the skin colors either. It's some of the stuff said and how some of the animal characters are portrayed. In Peter Pan they call the native women sqwa(sp) which is like calling them the c word. The Siamese cats in lady in the tramp.
It's not really racist. I see how there is progress in princesses of color. I hope a Latina princess is shown soon.
In my English class, we discussed how older Disney movies emphasize the traditional roles of women. Also, the women usually do not help themselves. They require a man or magic. The princesses are usually delicate and beautiful.
I wouldn't call it sexist. The older movies are very traditional in gender roles
How are most disney movies sexist or racist?? Theres an asian, arabian, native american, and a black princess, the frozen sisters are scandanavian. Ariel is a danish story so shes more than likely white because shes danish. Belle was from france so shes white. So help me but im not seeing the racism here
