Ancestry DNA

Have any of you ladies ever done ancestry DNA to see what your ethnicity is? I really want to do it. My mom was adopted so I don't really know what I am exactly.

Ya I know the process.. It's a pain in the ass. But I need to find my biological grandparents to even find anything out first. My bf just got his native status and it unlocked a lot of history and got his whole family their status.
I don't really care to much about the status... I just want to know what my background is.

Also, I'm in Canada if that makes any difference.

If by native status your an getting enrolled in a tribe. You've to got to know which tribe AND have proof grandparent/great grandparent on the Dawes Roll in order to get it. Just an in case that's what you meant.

That's pretty cool! I can't wait to do it. I know what my dads side is but not my moms. I want to see how much native I have in me so I can get my native status. But we have no history on my moms side and I think that's where the native comes from.

Do you know how long it took to get the results?

She did the DNA test, got on ancestry.com, and traced her roots back to, I forget how far back. But anyways, on Thanksgiving, they found a match!

Yes! My mom did hers and solved the age old mystery of what we "are". My grandmother was adopted at 11 and her birth mom was adopted.

My dh is adopted and was searching for years for his birth parents. He did both the ancestry dna and the 23 and me tests. I can't remember how much they cost, but I do remember they were pricey, but not so pricey that it wasn't worth it to him if that makes sense. Anyway, he wound up finding both birth parents before we got the results back from the dna tests, but they were also both listed on the ancestry.com one.

My dh's sister did it. There was some surprises in the results. I don't know how much she paid.

That's pretty awesome Backer. That makes me want to do it even more! Who knows what I could find from my moms side. She knows a little bit but not a lot and not 100% sure if what she knows is accurate.

Do you ladies happen to know how much it costs? It says 149$ on the website but I know some things are usually more than it says.

My dad did it but not for ethnicity, just to trace ancestors. He got all the way back to the 1700's and the war

My mom did! She actually found her birth mom through ancestry and a dna test. It was cool stuff what she has able to come up with. Heritage, origin and so on.
