I live in West Virginia and usually everyone around here gives birth in Martinsburg or Morgantown where there are huge heroin epidemics. My point is I have known A LOT of girls who've smoked weed their entire pregnancy and their babies have tested positive and nothing happens at all. CPS never got involved. I don't know if it's because it wasn't crack, meth or heroin but medical marijuana just got passed here and people still get arrested for selling and cultivating all the time so I'm not sure why they don't do anything, not that they should, I'm just saying. Hope everything goes okay with your friend. Also 2 weeks is long enough to get rid of weed in your system if you drink lots and lots of water and obviously eat well but if she has longer than that, even better.
@yanelmarie EXACTLY! I can literally not wait until more laws start to pass on things like that. Obviously a low amount is ok. Much better than pain medication, even if it’s just Tylenol. You can overdose with the acetaminophen in Tylenol so easily! On top of how bad (long term) it can be for your liver and kidneys.
Well tell her till Monday when she can call to try n slow down/smoke less at a time. And then ask the doctor for how he suggest it be done in the baby’s best interest. Good luck to her! I know it has to suck, esp when it is needed and she is trying to go that route instead of just take medication that doesn’t help much at all. I feel for her. Heating pads are my best friend with my back!
Right. I told her i didn't think she should just stop. She's just concerned about her current struggles and having cps involved over her pain tolerance. She took her leave from work today. She thinks bed rest will help alleviate the pain. 😔😔😔 idk idk i feel like they should be concerned about the overdose of pain meds rather than her smoking. But because it isn't legal. It's still a drug addicted child 😒
@yanelmarie ohhhhhhhh! Gahhh the system is so messed up! It’s so much better for her and baby for her to smoke weed than take pain medication if any sort! Poor girl!
Well I say try n taper off then if it’s been in urine and doctors already brought up the situation.
Maybe even ask OB if baby will be ok to completely detox? Or call n ask the nurse. I would hate for it to stress baby so much to completely just stop that something happens.
@candacelouise our state is slowly becoming legal.not yet. She had been upfront and it has been in her urine. We are neck and neck in our fourth pregnancies. She didn't smoke her last pregnancy. This one she's had sciatic pain, nerve pain etc. I've seen her take 6 extra strength tylenol and still be in pain. The doctors notified her already the if the baby test positive they will be called BUT they only test the babies when it's in the mother system at delivery. Hence, her want to detox herself
@yanelmarie that was my biggest fear when my son was born. Although my medication is prescribed, it is still not something they like baby’s to test positive for.
Idk—- I was for sure with the amount I took (mind you all prescribed by doctor and needed) he would have SOME in his system. Waited what seemed like forever and came back negative!
I really think she would have cps in her already if it’s shown up in her urine or blood. Because they can see that stuff. But I do see why she would worry.
Is she up front with doctors about it? Is she in a state that it’s at least medically legal?
@candacelouise theyrecently told her if shegoes into labor andtest positive they will take the baby and cps is notified. So now she's afraid. She wanted to do a permanent detox because she says her quitting was easy. But she'd do the detox now and not go back. With the same thoughts of "your body is amazing, and it knows what to give." So maybe the baby wouldn't test positive
@yanelmarie, all I see is the positive it does for kids with seizures, people with anxiety, stress (instead of a lot alcohol use).... it’s a plant. So much better than so many medications used for all that^^^.
@yanelmarie ahhhh yeah I mean.... I have never smoked but 🤷🏼♀️ I am a firm believer in weed doesn’t do harm. Lol now the baby could test positive for it but it also could not. My baby (first baby) didn’t test positive for what I take which normally always does. Your body is amazing at what it does when you’re pregnant. It knows what to give baby and what not to. And eap when baby is clearly fine and she’s been doing it the whole time
I am on a medication that I’m having to slowly go down. But I was told if I was gonna completely stop that it had to be in the early early stage of first trimester! If not I have to slowly taper down. Your body and baby’s body gets used to functioning to whatever you feed it, smoke, sugar, caffeine.. whatever it might be. If you eat/drink/smoke enough you need to slowly stop and not just quit all of a sudden. For you and baby!
No and it’s too late for her to complete quit cold turkey! The baby will have with drawls. If she is slowly backing off that’s good. But tell her not to just quit!!! It’ll be worse on the baby than if she are to just continue at this far along
