What would you do if you desperately needed a job at 26 weeks and the interviewer said they were looking for someone to stay a year or more (and you were on the fence about staying home with baby after birth)? What would you say in response to that?

If I was in your boat, I would say yes, you could potentially be there for the time they are asking. But like I said, plans change and they can't be upset about that. 99% of places clearly state that you or the employer can terminate the employment at any time, with or without notice. That's your right. Sooooo if it was me, I would take the job. They can't ask you for your post-delivery plans. It's not really relevant to their business. Can I ask where you applied or like what kind of position it would be? Cause that also adds to the situation and what you should do. Are they asking for the year commitment just because it is it a job that requires something long term?

Would you say yes just to get the job? And are they legally allowed to ask you your plan for after baby once you have the job?

Well.. That's great that that's what they are looking for. But honestly, they can't discrimate based on your pregnancy. You could say that right now, that shouldn't be an issue. But you're allowed to have a change of heart! At my last job as a receptionist, they wanted someone to stay for a year or two. I said that was fine, but I also knew that my husband and I were talking about going off of BC and getting pregnant soon, and that I wouldn't want to work when baby came. I only worked there for 7 months.
