When a child wants to quit a sport do you make them finish out the season, and then they don’t have to play next year or just let them quit?

Nat was super excited about softball but now she isn’t anymore cried today she doesn’t want to go and I had her go play anyways. When she got there she was fine and all smiles,When the game was over I said do you still not want to play? And she said she doesn’t want to go for the rest of her games. Which is like 1 game a week and honestly with all the rain we haven’t played much. I think we’ve played 3 games this season and she has 3 left.
But she has a game Saturday and she said she doesn’t want to go. I usually do the finish the season out and if you don’t want to play next year you don’t have to. Am I wrong?

I absolutely make her finish the season.
If not it shows them it's easy to just quit.

@raisingblueyedbabiesx2, that’s how it was for my sons first year of football tackle he wanted to quit didn’t like it, I made him stick it out and he has played every year since 3rd grade! My daughter is just a whole different kind of kid he didn’t get upset when I told him she seems pissed 🤣

I don’t think you’re wrong, I see your perspective, but here’s my experience!

My son has his good and bad days since starting sports. However they are just that for him, so I insist he continues because I know he would be upset if he quit over a bad day or bad game. I personally would see what the issue is, why she’s not interested to this extent, her crying seems like it could be effecting her negatively in some way, especially if this is something that keeps happening.

It’s the first time, but I’ll definitely keep an eye out and talk to her on why she doesn’t want to.

Finish the season out especially if I had to pay up front and depending on how much lol. My daughter does recreational gymnastics where I could pay monthly for a discount or by class which is once a week which is what she needs for her indecisiveness lol.

She probably just doesn't feel like actually going but once there she seems to be fine so tell her she got to thug it out til the end of the season 😂

She was impressed with me when I basically told her it’s only 3 games you can finish out. 🤣

My child obviously isnt at that age yet, but I would probably make him finish the season unless there are some huge red flag reasons why he wouldnt want to. And depending on how much I had to pay for everything for him to play….. 😂

We finish the season & let them decide the following year. We signed R up for t-ball this year and he hated it the first few times. We had him stick with it & now he loves it. If she seems to be fine & smiling during games then I’d def have her finish.

I dunno since kiddo never joined any sports before but I would speak to the child first about teamwork and see if it is worth completing if there really is no issue in stopping. Say if it will be mentally and physically grueling for them to continue then no. I’d pull them and try something different then.
The closest we’ve had was when kiddo signed up for saxophone and 2 weeks in the quitting talk popped up. They were stuck with it for the entire course.

I make them finish was they started because they signed up to be a team. So they need to finish the season because they are important to that team but next year they dont have to go again. In Brody soccer league they only have enough for one extra player so if kids drop mid season or miss we could end up playing with not a full team and that's not okay.

well here we literally are only down to 6 girls on a good day. So it would definitely effect the team

@caffeinequeen. Make her finish season because that's what she signed up for. Try her best but have fun with it. Even if she shows and sits the bench and cheers on everyone that's still helping. Its hard when they are young and dont want to go. Brody hated tball thought it was so boring but we had him finish the season for his team even if he showed up to cheer his team on that was still helping.

@mom2godzillaandwonkypets, oh I’ll definitely be making her finish, I told her lastnight it’s the right thing to do and her team needs her. And that if she doesn’t want to do it next season she doesn’t have to and we can find something else she may like.
