Hi lovelies 💗 newbie here. I’ve just found out I’m pregnant, only about 5 weeks so very early - yay! I’m Australian and I live in the uk with my fiancé. I called my doc to let them know I was pregnant but they said contact the local midwives so I filled out their form and waiting to hear back about an appointment with them. Is this normal?! At home we would go straight to the doctor and have an early scan. But from everything I’ve read here, will I not see anyone until I’m at least 8 weeks along? Very confused 😂 xx

Congratulations! I’m from Ukraine and 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my first and found out how the system is here I was very surprised. We get a lot of scans and appointments in my homeland too

@kerryy23, @vixster, thanks for replying guys! So helpful! Wow I can’t believe how little scans you get here, I’ll be very impatient wanting to see the little one 😂 a friend of mine lives in HK and she gets the regular two scans then she gets four other scans they describe as the ‘fun’ scans x

I think because the amount of pregnant women there are in any given area it wouldn't be cost effective to give them all free scans on the NHS.
You can look locally to you and find an individual scan place they usually charge around £40/£50 a scan but it gives you the opportunity to see baby 😊 x

Congrats! As vixster said, a booking appointment will be made with your local community midwife for around 8 weeks - pretty boring just filling in paperwork/medical history, they will give you your blood forms and arrange your 1st scan (dating scan) for around 12 weeks. Next scan (anomaly) at 20 weeks. That's all you get here scan wise on the NHS.. youll then get routine midwife appointments, 16 week appointment they listen to babies heartbeat for the first time and then any appointments after that are generally just to check blood pressure, make sure you're feeling okay etc. I've only just started having my bump measured at 28 weeks x
