I thought they were pushing back the date to file? My preparer said we can’t file until Feb. 12th

That’s true. You can go ahead and file with some tax software companies, but the returns won’t be submitted to the IRS until February 12.

You can file early the IRS just isn’t accepting returns until they open February 12th.

Technically today was the deadline to get your w2 slips and other tax forms you need to file. Ask again in a few weeks you might actually get some answers.
