Has anyone heard of license being suspended over a debt owed to an insurance company? My BIL says hes screwed now bc my mom sued his insurance and they sued him for $25,000 about 3 years ago but now hes just now getting a letter. My mom knew he would be stuck owing money (shes selfish and doesnt care who it harms to get money) but claims she didnt know it would cause his license to be suspended. He claims hes called and they said he has to pay the 25k to get them back. If that's the case he should just file bankruptcy I feel like.

It may have been court ordered but I haven't heard about him going to court for anything. This all happened when he was 17 y/o. I feel bad for him, he's freaking out. My mom is telling me to fix it but I have no idea what to do.
Tell him to call the place and see if he can make payment plans. It sucks he’s in the position. If it is court order he has to pay it back.y husband has been court ordered to pay 38,000 from his dui and they said we have to pay it or get an attorney to get it lowered but if we filed bankruptcy it would do nothing. So we are paying 150 a month for the next like 20 years unless we fight it. He should fight it. His insurance should of paid

They were in an accident in his car. Supposedly he had insurance but they refused to pay. My mom had uninsured motorist on her policy my sister was on and she sued her own company for not wanting to pay then they turned around and sued him.
Was she hurt? That’s the only reason they can refuse to pay. We literally just went through this when some one hit my husband and he was hurt but no broken bones or surgery needed to pay out just paid his chiropractic bills.

Was it court ordered? If it was court ordered he can’t file bankruptcy. But they shouldn’t be able to suspend his license. Garnish his wages yes. But if he has to pay it back what’s the point of having insurance!? That’s stupid he shouldn’t have to pay anything back
That sounds very odd....you can’t just sue someone’s insurance unless there’s an accident or injury...and then yes he’d be held accountable for that debt.
Here in Canada the only debts you can lose your license over are child support/alimony, OR you can be denied renewing your license for fine debts. It’s very possible he’s simply being denied to renew his license till his debt is paid which is very common (here anyways)

She sued her own bc his insurance wouldn't pay anything and she sued her own basically with a loop hole. She had the uninsured motorist and my sister was on her policy and she somehow sued her company for not wanting to pay. They hit a tree and he was in his own vehicle. Not sure if his insurance was lapsed or what but they aren't involved at all
