I took a dog 2 days ago and immediately booked an appointment with the vet upon looking at her. She's been very obviously neglected and it's visibly sick. The vet just confirmed that she has scabies and it's contagious to my entire family. The treatment is going to be expensive and my bank account can't take that kind of hit right now but my hormonal, pregnant heart keeps telling me that I'm a bad person if I bring her to a shelter. 😔 I can't stop crying over a dog I just met because I have absolutely no idea what to do.

omg yay!!! way to go you.
@christimary0, yay!!!! Good job girl!!!
That's amazing!!! 😊😊😊
@queenofexpecting, @sarisings @mum2logi @purpledpink good news! I let her previous owner know that she was sick and would be going to a shelter tomorrow. Her old owner has offered to pay for her medicine in exchange that I'll keep her out of a shelter. I'm so glad this sweet pup will be getting the treatment she needs after all. Now I can stop crying like a crazy person 😅
@christimary0, I feel you! I have 3 dogs (crazy I know) but a rescue isn't a bad place. And much better than a shelter. She will get treatment, rehabilitated, and placed in a good home! I saw your original post and you are amazing for rescuing the pup from its old situation! Major props to you mama! Keep your head up
@purpledpink, the vet told me of one place and I'll probably be bringing her there tomorrow. It just breaks my heart to think of such a sweet, amazing dog being in a rescue. She's so good. She doesn't run away from you if she's outside and not on a leash and she's kennel trained. She just really good.
@christimary0, look at rescue groups. Often times they will help out or even take her and and find a foster for her. Ask the vet if he knows of any groups. I'm sorry mama! It's hard! Also, there may be some "low cost vets" you could look into
poor thing. you can always try the otc treatment though. my husband swears by motor oil. it's what they use to put on dogs in Mexico lol
@mum2logi, the treatment is what's costing a lot. And then we run into another problem that we have plane tickets home booked for early October and they're telling me that she's not likely to be better by then so nobody is going to accept her for boarding. I don't want her sitting at home in a kennel all day waiting for someone to come and let her out.
is it just the treatment for scabies that's going to be expensive? or is she going to need extensive care from being neglected? There's some OTC medicine for scabies you could try first. they range in price
@sarisings, they're saying it's $120 for every treatment until she's better and they don't know how long it's going to take. And if it doesn't work then we have to change to a different treatment.
How much are the treatments? I know there is a place by me that does vaccines and treatments for cheaper than a vet.... maybe try searching for a place like that near you. (if you haven't already)
Aww sorry girl! I wish I had more advice 😔
@sarisings, I have a care credit card but we pay over 400 a month in credit card payments already so we can't afford to add to that. ):
