You can do it online as well but if you go into the stores they give you little gift bags. I got bottles, wipes, pacifier, and coupons.

it's just so that people can look and see the things you want and the things you already have. you can make one at lots of places on the internet. babies r us Walmart target and I think kmart too

Basically just a list of items you'd like for your baby. You go to the store and fill out your info (due date, your name, address, etc) then they give you a scanner to scan the things you'd like. If you have a baby shower you let the people you invite know where your registered so they have an idea of what you want instead of them just getting anything.
