Hello mamas of mom.life,
I am so pleased to join mom.life as president, CMO and co-founder. I’ve been working behind the scenes for the last few months, and today we made it official.
In today’s press release, I said that the opportunity to help build mom.life spoke to both my head and my heart. As a business person, I am thrilled about the vision for mom.life and the fundamentals of the business. But in this post, I want to speak from the heart, mom to mom.
At the end of last year, I began a long-planned break from working at a leading technology startup. I had been working nonstop since I was a teenager and was eager to take a breather and spend more time with my 10 year-old-son while he still enjoyed hanging with his mom.
This break also allowed a lot of time for reflection, and I kept coming back to how thankful I was for the support I had early in my life.
I grew up in a small town in Indiana, the youngest of four children. My parents divorced when I was 5 years old -- in a time and a place where divorce was not common. We struggled financially, living below the poverty line most of the time.
As challenging as that was, I will never forget how the moms in our community supported me and my family. When I was little, our neighbor, Jean, babysat me everyday after school and wouldn’t accept payment. Later, my friend Amy’s parents looked after me, took me on vacations with them, did more than their fair share of carpool driving and provided endless moral support. My gymnastics coach, Diane, allowed me to help teach the younger kids on Saturdays in exchange for free lessons.
These acts of kindness from the moms in our community made a world of difference in my life.
And so, when the opportunity to join mom.life came my way, I knew I had to take it. As moms, we all have the power to make a difference in each other’s lives. Whether we are working moms or SAHMs, whether we breastfeed or bottle feed, whether we are teen moms or in our 40s, we are all united by the experience of being a mom and the love we have for our children.
What I love most about the supportive mom.life community is how honest, real and even raw the conversations are. While Facebook is the highlight reel of our lives, mom.life is real life.
I look forward to sharing the magic and madness of motherhood with each of you. You can find me on mom.life as @deeanna.mom.life.
